How to Get Target Same Day Grocery Delivery Through Shipt

Same-day grocery delivery is becoming more popular every day. Now you can get your Target grocery delivery in as little as one hour with Target’s same-day delivery service through Shipt.

To get Target grocery delivery, your order must be a minimum of $35. You can order same-day delivery from Target using the Shipt app, the Shipt website, the Target app, or the website. Target grocery delivery is free for Shipt members, and non-members pay a $9.99 delivery fee. Shipt membership costs $99 per year.

There are a few different ways to get Target same-day delivery. In this article, we will cover everything you need to know about using Shipt for your Target grocery delivery.  

How Does Target Grocery Delivery Work?

Target grocery delivery is available through Shipt. When you place your Target order online, either through the Target app or the website, a Shipt employee will shop for your order and deliver within an available delivery window. Target grocery delivery is available regardless of whether you have a Shipt membership.

You can order grocery delivery with your Target online order by selecting the same-day delivery option from the Target app or visiting the same-day delivery page on Target’s website.

In addition to grocery items, Target offers same-day delivery for many items in their stores. Other items available for Target same-day delivery include:

  • Essentials
  • Pet Supplies
  • Baby Items
  • Personal Care
  • Beauty Products
  • Health
  • Bath and Bedding
  • Kitchen and Dining
  • Toys
  • Sporting Goods
  • Luggage and Backpacks
  • School and Office Supplies

There are a few items that are not eligible from Target for Shipt delivery. These items include:

  • Select Clothing, Shoes, and Accessories
  • Select Electronics and Video Games
  • Services (Starbucks, Target Café, Target Mobile)
  • Limited Time Offers
  • Items over 40 lbs.

If you want to find out if an item is available for Target same-day delivery, you can enter the item into the search field to locate it. If the item is eligible, “Deliver It” will appear on the Product Detail Page.

How to Order Target Online

You can place your Target order online by using the Target app or the website. For Target same-day delivery, you can choose to place your order through the Shipt app or the website as well. If you want to use your RedCard or Target Circle Offers, they are available exclusively in the Target app.

How you place your Target online order for same-day delivery depends on whether you are ordering from Target or Shipt. Each platform is different.

If you are ordering online through the Target App, here are the steps to place a same-day delivery order:

1. Open your Target app to access the Discover Page

2. Click on Delivery (Brought to your door by Shipt). This will provide you with access to all the eligible items for Target same-day delivery at your local Target.

Here you will be able to choose from past orders, most frequently purchased items, and more.

3. If you want Target grocery delivery, scroll down to shop by category.

This will allow you to choose which types of items you are shopping for. For grocery delivery, you would choose Grocery and Household Essentials.

4. After you choose your first item, you will be asked to confirm your delivery address and your Target store.

5. Once you are finished shopping, open your cart. Here you will be able to add backup options and notes for your Shipt driver. If you have a RedCard on file, your 5% discount will be applied, and you can click Checkout.

After checkout, you can choose the available delivery time slot that works best for you.

If you are using the Shipt app to shop at Target, you will need to follow these steps to receive your same-day delivery:

1. Open your Shipt app and select Target from the Shop Menu.

This will bring you to Target’s storefront on Shipt.

2. Shop for your groceries and other items using any of the available filters or search options. When you are done, access your cart.

3. . Next, click the checkout button to select your delivery time and pay for your order.

4. On the next screen, you will be asked to enter your phone number, select contactless delivery options, give directions for substitutions, and choose whether or not to tip your Shipt shopper.

5. Finally, you will need to enter your credit card information to pay for and complete your order. You cannot use your Target RedCard when shopping at Target with Shipt.

In addition to the user experience differences, ordering from the Target app or the Shipt app also has a few differences in their coupons and promotions.

One of the benefits of using the Target app when shopping for same-day delivery is their Circle Offers and the 5% discount on RedCard purchases.

Circle Offers are not available when using Shipt to shop for your Target online order, and you can not use your Target RedCard to checkout with Shipt.

However, Shipt does offer Target’s weekly ad specials and will often feature the current gift card promotions. Shipt also has its own coupons and specials that you can apply toward your Target same-day delivery order.

How Much Does Target Grocery Delivery Cost?

Your Target grocery order must be a minimum of $35 to qualify for same-day delivery when using the Target app. There is no minimum order when ordering Target groceries through the Shipt app. Delivery is free for Shipt members, and non-members pay a $9.99 delivery fee if ordering through Target or $10 through Shipt.  

While Shipt is still its own company, it is important to know that Target acquired Shipt in 2017. Because of this acquisition, these two businesses overlap in a few areas when it comes to Target’s same-day delivery cost.

If you do not have a Target Shipt membership, you will pay a delivery fee when placing an order for Target same-day delivery.

If you are using the Target app, the delivery fee is $9.99, and your order must be a minimum of $35. When ordering from Target through the Shipt app without a Shipt pass or membership, there is a minimum amount for your order, and your delivery fee is $10.

If you want to access Target’s free same-day delivery, you will need a Shipt membership. Target offers a Shipt free trial that allows you to access all the membership benefits for 4 weeks.

You can sign up for the free trial during the checkout process and completion of an eligible order.

Because Target and Shipt have integrated their services into the Target app, you can link your Shipt account to your Target account.

If you sign up for Shipt through Target’s free trial offer, your Shipt account uses the same email address as your Target account.

Target only offers annual Shipt memberships through its app. This membership includes unlimited free deliveries on orders of $35 or more and is $99 annually.

After your Shipt free trial ends, you will be automatically charged your annual membership rate.

Your annual Shipt membership can also be used to order from the Shipt app. When you order using the Shipt app, orders over $35 have free same-day delivery, and smaller orders have a $7 delivery fee.

How to Cancel Target Same Day Delivery Membership

If you sign up for a free trial of Shipt with Target and you do not want to pay the annual fee, you must cancel your Shipt Target membership before the end of your trial period. You can cancel your membership by contacting Shipt at (205) 502-2500 or [email protected] or Target Shipt customer service at 1-800-591-3869.

When you call or email Target or Shipt to cancel your membership, you will need to provide your name, phone number, and email address associated with the membership.

If you want to avoid your next annual membership fee, you must cancel your membership before the end of your current subscription period.

Shipt offers pro-rated refunds on annual memberships if you choose to cancel your membership in the middle of a membership year.

Just make sure to ask for one when you call or email their customer service department.

Do You Tip Target Grocery Delivery?

The person delivering your Target grocery order is a Shipt Shopper. They are shopping for and delivering your groceries. While tipping is not required, 15-20% is recommended, and 100% of your tip will go directly to your Shipt Shopper.

When it comes to tipping your Shipt Shopper, the Shipt app will provide you with your tipping options before checking out on the app.

When you order through Target, Shipt tipping options are sent to you after your order has been delivered from the Target app.

You can tip your Shipt shopper directly through these apps, or you may opt to tip in cash when they deliver your Target order. While it is entirely your decision, tipping your Target delivery driver is customary and considered good practice.

Does Target Accept EBT or WIC Online?

Target does not accept EBT or WIC for online orders. Target same-day delivery also does not accept PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or coupons. In addition, Shipt does not accept EBT due to USDA restrictions and will not allow store cards or store gift cards as payment.

When using the Target app or website for same-day delivery, you can use any major U.S. credit and debit cards, including Target RedCard, the Target RedCard 5% discount, and reloadable store gift cards.

Shipt allows you to make purchases with all major U.S credit and debit cards, as well as reloadable gift cards as long as they have a 3-digit CVC code on the back of the card.

Does Target Use Instacart?

Shipt is owned by Target and delivers same-day orders from Target. However, Instacart also provides its services to Target customers. Instacart only offers grocery and household essentials to order from Target, so your options are more limited when using Instacart for Target delivery.

If you are looking for grocery delivery from Target, Instacart is still an option for same-day delivery. However, because Instacart is primarily a grocery delivery service, you only have access to grocery and household items.

With Target’s same-day delivery and Shipt, you can shop virtually every Target department for fast, same-day delivery.
