After delivery, you can request a refund through DoorDash if you are dissatisfied with your order. Customers can also request full refunds for in-progress orders that have not yet been confirmed by restaurants or assigned a Dasher. In some situations, DoorDash may decline to issue a refund.

How to Request a Refund on DoorDash
To request a refund on DoorDash, all you need to do is select the order and fill out a refund request through the DoorDash app.
After you report any issues with your order, DoorDash may give you the option to choose between an account credit for a future order or a refund to your bank account.
If you’re dissatisfied with your order for any reason, follow these steps to request a refund.
- Navigate to the “Orders” tab and choose the order you want to request a refund on.
- Click the “Help” tab and choose what was wrong with your order.
- Add any relevant details under the “Details” section and submit your report.
According to DoorDash’s terms of service, any charges that a customer pays for a completed and delivered order are final.
In other words, DoorDash is not required to issue a refund for any issue related to your order, and all refunds are given on a case-by-case basis to prevent customers from abusing the app’s refund system.
The circumstances of your refund will vary depending on your specific situation. With that said, DoorDash typically issues refunds for a wide range of issues, including:

Can You Get a Refund for DashPass?
If you had a free trial or promotional subscription, you can request a full refund for your DashPass membership fee if you cancel within the first 48 hours of paying for your subscription. Otherwise, you cannot get a refund for your DashPass unless DoorDash cancels your subscription.
If DoorDash cancels your subscription for any reason, you will receive a refund for membership fees on a pro-rata basis.

Alternatively, if you have a delivery in progress, you can change your delivery address on the DoorDash app before your order is delivered. Here’s how.
- Choose the “Help” option on the order tracker screen.

If the delivery address is grayed out, you are not within the delivery range of the restaurant, and DoorDash will not be able to change your delivery address for the current order.

How Long Does a DoorDash Refund Take?
Although DoorDash processes refunds immediately, it takes approximately 5–7 days before the refund hits your bank account. When you request a refund through DoorDash, DoorDash will refund the amount to the credit card you used to pay for the order.
According to the DoorDash website, you can check the status of your refund by checking the email confirmation with the details of your refund issue date and refund amount.

Do Dashers Pay for Missing Items?
No, Dashers do not pay for missing items. After your Dasher leaves the restaurant, they are no longer responsible for any items missing from your order. If your Dasher delivers an order and you find that items are missing, you can request a refund through the DoorDash app.
With many customers concerned about potential food tampering, most restaurants staple or seal their bags before pickup.
As a result, Dashers cannot check the contents of the bag before leaving the restaurant, and missing items are almost always the restaurant’s fault.

How to Cancel an Order on DoorDash
Canceling an order through the DoorDash mobile app is a quick and easy process. However, the stage of your in-progress order will determine the amount of your refund.
Depending on how long you take to initiate the cancellation process, you may receive a full refund, partial refund, or no refund.
Here’s how to cancel a DoorDash order that is in progress through the app.
- Navigate to the “Orders” tab toward the bottom of the screen.
- Choose the in-progress order you want to cancel at the top of the screen and click “View Order.”
- Click the “Help” option in the upper right corner of the screen and select “Can I cancel my order?” under the customer service dropdown menu.
Next, DoorDash will inform you of your refund type—full, partial, or no refund. You will have the option to confirm the cancellation or not cancel.
The stage of your order will determine the amount of your refund. For example, when you cancel your DoorDash order before the restaurant confirms or a Dasher is assigned to your order, you will receive a full refund for the total amount of your purchase.
However, you typically only have a few minutes to do this!
Alternatively, if you cancel after either restaurant confirms your order or DoorDash assigns a Dasher, you will receive a partial refund.
Once your order has started, or your Dasher has started traveling to the restaurant, DoorDash may have to pay the driver or the restaurant.
If you cancel after the restaurant confirms your order and a Dasher has been assigned, you will not receive a refund.
