PayPal started as an electronic payment system in the late 90s, bringing innovation to the payment industry. Over the years, they partnered with large stores and mobile wallet providers to be an in-store payment platform.
These partnerships paid dividends, and today PayPal is accepted as a payment method at many establishments across the U.S.
So, can you order food with PayPal?
Yes, you can order food with PayPal if you add your PayPal account to Google Pay or Samsung Pay. You can then order food with PayPal at restaurants that accept Google Pay or Samsung Pay as a payment method.
At the time of this writing, Apple Pay users can’t add PayPal to their mobile wallets. However, I’ll give you step-by-step instructions on adding your PayPal account to Google Pay and Samsung Pay.
I’ll also cover the list of restaurants and food delivery services that accept PayPal via Google Pay or Samsung Pay.

How to Add PayPal to Google Pay
You can add your PayPal account to Google Pay using a desktop or an Android device. Keep in mind that iPhone users cannot add PayPal to Google Pay using the Google Pay app.
So if you’re an iPhone user, follow the instructions below for desktops, and you’ll see the PayPal account listed on the Google Pay app on your iPhone.
Below are the instructions for adding your PayPal account to Google Pay on desktops and Android devices:
On Desktops:
- Go to the Google Pay website and sign into your account
- Click “Payment methods” at the top and then click “Add payment method”
- Select “Add PayPal” and click “Save”
- You will be sent to the PayPal website to verify your account
On Android Devices:
- Open the Google Pay app on your Android device and tap “Payment methods”
- Tap “Add payment method”
- Select “PayPal” as the payment option
- Enter the e-mail associated with your PayPal account and then tap “Allow”
- Tap “Accept” to complete the setup
When you complete the setup, you’ll see your PayPal account listed in the “Cards” tab on the Google Pay app.
You can choose PayPal as the default payment method, review your recent activity, or remove it if you no longer need it.
If you want to make any changes directly to your PayPal account, such as the PIN, or the automatic top-up amount, you need to open the PayPal app and click “Settings.”
How to Add PayPal to Samsung Pay
You can add a PayPal account to Samsung Pay using the Samsung Pay app on your mobile device. Follow the instructions below on how to do it:
- Download the Samsung Pay app
- Open the app and select the “Wallet” tab
- Click “+” and then “Add PayPal”
- Log in to your PayPal account to verify
Samsung Pay works at almost all restaurants that accept credit or debit cards. You may be asked to enter a PIN to authorize the payment at the terminal.
To create a PIN for your PayPal account, open the PayPal app on your mobile device, and click “Settings.” Or you can go to the PayPal website and create the PIN under the Samsung Pay section.
List of Restaurants That Accept PayPal
After linking your PayPal account to Google Pay or Samsung Pay, you can order food at restaurants using PayPal as long as they accept one of the two mobile payments.
Before ordering food at a restaurant, though, I’d recommend confirming that they accept Google Pay or Samsung Pay. Or bring a backup payment method, such as a credit card or cash, in case they change their payment policies.

Over the past few years, food delivery services gained a lot of popularity because of their convenience.
Companies like Grubhub and Uber Eats expanded their coverage in terms of restaurants and delivery locations.
I compiled the list of food delivery services that accept PayPal directly or via Google Pay below:

Ordering Food With PayPal QR Codes
Most restaurants don’t accept PayPal QR codes, but it’s another option to order food with PayPal if the restaurant accepts them.
To use PayPal QR codes, open the PayPal app, and select the “Scan/Pay” option.
It will turn on your phone’s camera so that you can scan the QR code provided by the restaurant.
Enter the amount you want to pay and tap “Send” to complete the transaction.
Ordering Food With PayPal Cash Card
Another option to order food with PayPal is using the PayPal Cash Card. To get this card, you need to open a PayPal Cash Plus account.
PayPal Cash Card can be used at any restaurant that accepts Mastercard payments.
Most restaurants accept Mastercard payments in-store and online, so it’s a great option to order food using your PayPal account.
PayPal Cash Card doesn’t have any monthly fees or a minimum balance requirement. There’s also no fee for using this card in-store or online.
PayPal doesn’t charge any fees to add funds to PayPal Cash Card if you use direct deposit or transfer funds from a bank account.
You can also load cash at a participating retail store with a fee of up to $4.95.
There’s a daily and a monthly limit for loading cash at the retail stores, though. The daily limit is $1,500, and the monthly limit is $5,000.
PayPal’s definition of a “day” is the 24-hour rolling period, and a “month” is the calendar month.
There’s also a limitation on how much you can purchase using the PayPal Cash Card.
The daily purchase limit is capped at $3,000. For most of us who don’t spend $3,000 a day, PayPal Cash Card is still a viable option to order food.
