12 Best McDonald’s McFlurry Flavors, Ranked

By Lana Kisner | November 17, 2023

One of the best ways to end your meal at McDonald’s is by ordering a McFlurry. Since its introduction in the mid-1990s, the McFlurry has become one of the most popular McDonald’s desserts around the world. It comes in a variety of flavors, and over the years, McDonald’s mixed many well-known candies with its soft-serve vanilla ice cream to create this unique, sweet treat.

Of course, some combinations were better than others, so I compiled a list of the best McFlurry flavors of all time and ranked them. There are discontinued and seasonal flavors on the list, but hey, you never know – they may have a comeback! After all, McDonald’s is known for bringing back popular items for a limited time every now and then.

12. M&M’s

This is one of the regular McFlurry flavors you can find at McDonald’s restaurants across the US. Colorful chocolate M&M candies are swirled into sweet and creamy vanilla soft serve to create a fun take on two old favorites. The rainbow colors make this sweet treat fun, especially when they start to change the ice cream colors.

My only gripe is that the soft-serve ice cream makes M&M’s hard to chew, so you might need patience to really enjoy this combo. The candies also don’t disperse throughout the ice cream like other sauces and crumbly toppings, so I’ve ranked it at the bottom of our list.

11. Pralines & Cream

The Pralines & Cream McFlurry was a favorite while it lasted, but this flavor sadly hasn’t been available for some time. McDonald’s discontinued it in 2015 with no plans for its return, but those who had the opportunity to try it will remember it fondly. Pralines are sugar-coated pecans, which are already great on their own. These were swirled into creamy vanilla soft serve and topped with hot caramel sauce for the perfect trifecta of ice cream, crunch, and sauce.

10. Butterfinger

The Butterfinger McFlurry doesn’t quite look like a classic sundae, but it has all the makings of one. Butterfinger candies are layers of thin and crispy peanut butter coated in a milk chocolate shell. These candies were broken up and swirled in creamy vanilla soft serve to create a sweet and crunchy dessert. You can’t really go wrong with the combination of peanut butter, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream. Although this flavor has been discontinued, the Butterfinger McFlurry was so popular that many fans are still petitioning to bring it back.

9. Stroopwafel

The Stroopwafel McFlurry started in the Netherlands and became a fan favorite when it made its debut on US menus in June 2019. It was one of the few international menu items that made a limited-time appearance in the United States that year. Caramel stroopwafel crumbles and caramel sauce were swirled throughout vanilla soft serve to create this popular McFlurry flavor. The thin stroopwafel was similar to a thin waffle cone, and it was made by Daelmans.

8. Caramel Brownie

The Caramel Brownie McFlurry was one of the limited-time flavors. It made its debut in the summer of 2021 and was announced on National Caramel Day a month before its release.  It included chocolate brownie pieces and caramel sauce swirled throughout the soft-serve vanilla ice cream.

Brownies and ice cream are undeniably a delicious combination, and the caramel sauce took it to the next level. While this McFlurry flavor was a bit heavier than others, it still made a great summer treat, and fans are still crossing their fingers for its return.

7. Rolo

Rolo candies are made of creamy chocolate filled with decadent caramel. The Rolo McFlurry included these candies swirled into creamy vanilla soft-serve ice cream. Together, we got three classic flavors in one delicious dessert. Chocolate pieces and sweet caramel swirls gave this McFlurry flavor a fun texture and made every bite different. Although it was only around for a limited time, I hope to enjoy it again one day.

6. Snickerdoodle

The Snickerdoodle was one of the few holiday McFlurry flavors that was released in 2019. It was only available for a short time but made its mark among superfans. It included sugar cookie crumbles, cinnamon, and white chocolate pieces swirled into vanilla soft serve. It was sweet, cinnamon-y, and had a nice, chewy texture.

5. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup

McDonald’s discontinued the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup McFlurry in 2012, but many people kept talking about it for years on social media. This flavor had crumbled Reese’s peanut butter cups mixed into vanilla soft serve. It had the perfectly balanced flavor of ice cream, chocolate, and creamy peanut butter.

The good news is McDonald’s listened to the superfans and recently released a very similar flavor – the Peanut Butter Crunch McFlurry. It’s available for a limited time, so grab one while you can!

4. Shamrock McFlurry

The Shamrock Shake has been a popular seasonal flavor since 1970, and McDonald’s introduced its McFlurry counterpart in 2020, called the Shamrock McFlurry. It’s made of vanilla soft serve with that signature Shamrock Shake flavor and Oreo cookies throughout. This combination reminds me of thin mint cookies. This is one of the McFlurry flavors that makes a regular comeback every year, which is a testament to its popularity.

3. Twix

The Twix McFlurry was like three desserts in one. It was made of chocolate-coated cookie pieces and caramel sauce swirled into soft-serve vanilla ice cream. Just like the famous candy bar, it excelled in flavor and texture. It was discontinued, but many fans remain hopeful that it will make a return at some point.

2. Snickers

The Snickers McFlurry didn’t actually have Snickers bars in it, but it had all the ingredients you would find in the famous candy bar. It included crunchy peanuts, gooey caramel sauce, and chocolate-covered nougat pieces. This is one McFlurry flavor that I hope makes a comeback soon.

1. Oreo McFlurry

The Oreo McFlurry, in my opinion, is the best McFlurry flavor, and you can order it at most McDonald’s locations in the US. It includes creamy and crunchy Oreo cookie crumbles mixed into vanilla soft-serve ice cream. It’s sweet and crunchy, and the cookie crumbles are perfectly distributed throughout for that chocolate and vanilla combination in every bite.
