What Is Chick-fil-A’s Polynesian Sauce and What Does It Taste Like?
By Lana Kisner | November 13, 2023
The Polynesian sauce is one of Chick-fil-A’s most popular dipping sauces. It’s also one of the first dipping sauces Chick-fil-A introduced in 1984 to pair with their chicken nuggets. It’s been a hit with the customers ever since, but some critics seem unimpressed. So, I tried the Polynesian sauce with a few Chick-fil-A menu items to find out what it tastes like and if it’s worth the hype.
What Does Chick-fil-A’s Polynesian Sauce Taste Like?
I found the Polynesian sauce to be a perfect blend of sweet and sour. It combines several sweet ingredients with two types of vinegar to create a tangy dipping sauce that pairs great with Chick-fil-A nuggets.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the taste. It was reminiscent of some other sweet and sour sauces, but it had a rich, sweet flavor that reminded me of molasses.
I also tried it with waffle fries, and while it tasted good, I didn’t like it as much. I think it’s best to pair it with their nuggets if you love a sweet, tangy flavor to go along with your chicken.
Chick-fil-A serves dipping sauces in 1 oz. containers, but you can buy the Polynesian sauce in 8 or 16 oz. bottles at many grocery stores. This comes in handy when cooking at home and trying it with other dishes, especially shrimp and pork.
What Are the Ingredients in Chick-fil-A’s Polynesian Sauce?
According to Chick-fil-A’s ingredient label, the Polynesian sauce includes a blend of sugar, corn syrup, soybean oil, two types of vinegar, tomato paste, mustard seed, paprika, and a few other flavorings and preservatives. The sauce is gluten-free, dairy-free, and doesn’t contain eggs or nuts, so pretty much anyone can enjoy it.
Do You Need to Refrigerate the Chick-fil-A Polynesian Sauce?
The individual 1 oz. packets do not have to be refrigerated because they are meant to be for immediate consumption, but Chick-fil-A recommends refrigerating 8 oz. and 16 oz. bottles after opening as written on the product label.
When I get extra sauces from Chick-fil-A in 1 oz. containers, I typically consume them quickly. But if you think you’ll hold on to them for a while, storing them in the refrigerator would help to keep them fresh longer.
All bottled Chick-fil-A sauces should be refrigerated after opening, though, and each bottle also comes with an expiration date.
