The Best Dishes on the LongHorn Steakhouse Menu
LongHorn Steakhouse is one of the best steakhouse chains known for its juicy steaks and upscale yet relaxed atmosphere.
Just like the Outback Steakhouses and Texas Roadhouses of the world, the main allure of LongHorn is its extensive steak menu.
The menu at LongHorn Steakhouse also features an array of appetizers, sides, desserts, and non-steak entrees.
While each menu item has its fans, some are definitely better than others.
So, what’s the best of the best? What’s worth your money on your next visit to LongHorn?
To help you decide what to order, I’ve compiled a list of the 20 best items on LongHorn Steakhouse’s menu that are worth trying!
20. Steakhouse Wings
Let me start by saying that these aren’t your average, greasy fried chicken wings.
LongHorn’s wings are crisped up just enough to get a nice crunch and then tossed in their signature seasoning.
The seasoning has just the right amount of smoke and salt, so the wings can easily be eaten without additional sauces.
If you want a little extra of that classic wing flavor, the wings are served with a side of buffalo sauce and housemade blue cheese dressing.
I’m more of a ranch gal myself, but the housemade blue cheese pairs really well with the crispy wings and smoky seasoning.
This is a great chicken appetizer on a menu full of beef-based dishes!
The Seasoned Steakhouse Wings contain 460 calories. The buffalo sauce adds 90 calories, and the blue cheese dip adds 180 calories.
19. Grilled Chicken & Strawberry Salad
A salad is usually the last thing I’d think about ordering at a restaurant with “Steakhouse” in its name, but after tasting the Grilled Chicken & Strawberry Salad, I think it makes perfect sense as a menu item.
Most dishes at LongHorn are big slabs of meat or heavy side items like mashed potatoes or mac and cheese.
And don’t get me wrong, those are great and what people come to LongHorn for.
But a light, refreshing salad is exactly what’s needed to freshen up the menu.
This sweet and savory salad features grilled chicken, strawberries, grapes, mandarin oranges, feta, candied pecans, and a raspberry vinaigrette.
While I wasn’t a fan of the grapes, everything else in this salad is on point.
It contrasts so nicely with whatever heavier options you’re bound to order.
The salty feta compliments all that sweet fruit, and the raspberry vinaigrette is tangy and refreshing.
At 530 calories, the Grilled Chicken & Strawberry Salad is perfect for splitting as a side or ordering for a lighter entree.
18. Chocolate Stampede
Calling all chocolate lovers! The Chocolate Stampede is a dessert to be reckoned with.
It’s essentially a chocolate cake but turned up about 100 notches.
It features six different kinds of chocolate, including the cake itself, mousse, a chocolate shell, and chocolate syrup.
Even the restaurant admits you’ll need more than one person to finish this dessert. (They say you’ll “need the whole herd”!)
While each element on its own isn’t anything particularly remarkable, all the chocolate ingredients come together to make an epic, uber-rich dessert for the whole table.
It’s served with vanilla bean ice cream to balance out some of that chocolate.
The Chocolate Stampede contains 2460 calories.
17. LH Burger
If you’re in the mood for beef but don’t want to commit to a full-on steak, try the LH Burger.
The burger comes with a half-pound patty (grilled to your liking) and is topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, cheese, applewood smoked bacon, and LongHorn’s signature burger sauce.
Cheese-wise, you can choose between American, cheddar, and Swiss.
This burger has all the makings of a classic – juicy patty, buttery bun, fresh toppings, and a tangy, creamy sauce.
With so many other beef-based options on the menu, the LH burger is often overshadowed.
But if you’re looking for a simple, solid burger, this is it.
The LH Burger contains 980 calories.
16. Baby Back Ribs
LongHorn’s Baby Back Ribs are rubbed in a secret blend of seasonings, slow-cooked, fire-grilled, and finally brushed with a housemade BBQ sauce.
As you can tell, a lot of care is put into these bad boys from start to finish.
The result is a fall-off-the-bone tender rack of ribs that are smokey and just a little tangy.
The fire-grilling of the ribs gives the rack a depth of flavor you just won’t find at most chain restaurants.
In addition, the homemade BBQ sauce has a little sweetness – just enough to balance out the smoked, ultra-umami flavor of the ribs themselves.
Your ribs come with a choice of two sides. You can also request sauce on the side or have no sauce.
One rack of ribs contains 1630 calories.
15. White Cheddar Stuffed Mushrooms
I’m partial to mushrooms, but even those who aren’t fungi fans should try LongHorn’s White Cheddar Stuffed Mushrooms.
To make the dish, small mushroom caps are roasted and then stuffed with garlic herb cheese.
They’re then topped with a Parmesan crumb crust and laid atop a bed of creamy four-cheese sauce.
The textural component is what shines through with this appetizer – the crunchy parm crumbs mixed with the gooey garlic herb cheese and the soft mushrooms just make for a unique bite.
Plus, it’s nice to have a non-meat option to start with since the vast majority of items on the menu have lots of meat in them.
Many reviewers claim this is the best appetizer on the LongHorn menu, but I’ll leave that up to you to decide.
The White Cheddar Mushroom appetizer contains 730 calories.
14. French Onion Soup
Unsurprisingly, one of the most popular appetizers to pair with your steak is French Onion Soup.
LongHorn’s version is a comforting classic that hits all the essentials.
The broth is beefy and rich and topped with lots of melted cheese (Swiss, provolone, and parmesan, to be exact).
All that melted cheese makes for a great cheese pull, and the toasted parmesan crumbs on top add a nice textural element to an otherwise mushy dish.
Mushy doesn’t mean bad, though, and this is a side dish that pretty much everyone will enjoy.
A cup of French Onion Soup contains 480 calories.
13. 7-Pepper Sirloin Salad
The 7-Pepper Sirloin Salad begins with LongHorn’s grilled sirloin steak, which is then tossed in a 7-pepper seasoning and served with diced tomatoes, croutons, and crumbled blue cheese.
This is by far the best salad on the LongHorn Steakhouse menu.
For starters, it features that classic steak that made the chain famous in the first place.
The rich steak is offset by fresh, crisp lettuce and tomatoes.
The crunchy croutons and creamy blue cheese add even more texture and flavor, making the salad hearty and interesting.
You can also choose to have your 7-Pepper Sirloin served on a bed of Caesar salad.
A 7-Pepper Sirloin Salad with mixed greens contains 490 calories, while one with Caesar salad contains 720 calories.
12. New York Strip Steak
A New York Strip is cut from the short loin behind the ribs. This muscle isn’t frequently used by the cow, resulting in a tender steak.
LongHorn’s version of the NY Strip is fire-grilled to enhance its signature beefy flavor and contains some marbling throughout.
The NY strip has the two qualities everyone looks for in a steak – marbling and tenderness.
However, a few steaks on the menu are significantly more tender and marbled, so I couldn’t rank this one higher.
That being said, it’s still a great option, especially if you’re looking for that classic, beefy flavor in a steak.
Note that depending on your LongHorn Steakhouse location, the New York Strip might be listed as the Kansas City Strip on the menu – they’re the same thing, but the chain uses two different names.
The New York Strip is 12 oz and contains 630 calories. It comes with your choice of two sides.
11. Strawberries & Cream Shortcake
I think the Strawberries & Cream Shortcake is the best dessert on LongHorn’s menu.
It is made with layers of spongy shortcake with vanilla cream and strawberry jam between each layer. It’s also topped with fresh strawberries.
This dessert is so successful because it’s not overly sweet.
The jam and strawberry glaze are pretty sugary, but the cake itself balances that out and helps to keep the dessert from becoming cloying.
This is the type of dessert that you won’t feel nauseated after eating.
If anything, it’s refreshing, as weird as that might sound for a descriptor of a cake.
The Strawberries & Cream Shortcake contains 640 calories.
10. Corn on the Cob
Again, I will start by stating my humble opinion – the Fire-Grilled Corn on the Cob is the best side dish that LongHorn has to offer.
Each cob is grilled and then topped with housemade crema and seasoned parmesan crumbs.
The corn is slightly smokey and charred thanks to the grilling, which brings out the natural sweetness of the corn.
The crema acts as a substitute for your typical melted butter, while the parmesan adds some sharpness to the otherwise sweet flavors throughout.
If you like street corn, this is definitely a side dish worth trying.
One Corn on the Cob contains 200 calories.
9. Redrock Grilled Shrimp
LongHorn’s grilled shrimp is not what you expect from a chain restaurant.
At most places, you’ll get a garlic butter sauce with your shrimp, but LongHorn switches it up a little bit, and it’s pretty delicious.
Each piece of jumbo shrimp is glazed with smoky tomato butter, giving it a rich, smokey flavor and a little zesty all at once.
Your shrimp is served over a bed of rice and comes with a side of garlic butter if you want that classic garlic/butter/shrimp trio of flavors (let’s face it, it’s offered at most restaurants for a reason).
You can order 8 or 12 shrimp to come with your meal.
Twelve shrimp contain 240 calories, the butter sauce has 230 calories, and the rice adds 230 calories.
You’ll also be given your choice of two sides.
8. Chop Steak
Most people wouldn’t think to order ground beef at a steak restaurant (blasphemy!), but the Chop Steak is a special case.
LongHorn’s Chop Steak is made with freshly ground meat formed into a steak-like shape.
It’s topped with grilled mushrooms, caramelized onions, and a savory garlic herb sauce.
The chop steak is juicy, rich, and has that classic steak flavor to it.
The caramelized onions are sweet, which adds a unique element to the dish. After all, steaks are usually topped with savory ingredients.
Sauteed mushrooms are always a welcome addition when it comes to steak, and they add a little extra oomph to the dish overall.
The garlic herb sauce is buttery, making the chop steak even more moist.
Even if you’re the type to shudder at meatloaf in its many forms, the chop steak is more like a bunless burger, so it’s still worth a try.
It’s just one of those things you have to try yourself to see what I mean.
The Chop Steak contains 640 calories and comes with your choice of two sides.
7. Wild West Shrimp
The White Cheddar Mushrooms get much of the glory from diners, but I think the best appetizer on LongHorn’s menu is the Wild West Shrimp.
In this app, shrimp is hand-breaded and fried until golden brown and crispy.
It’s then tossed with spicy cherry peppers and garlic butter.
The batter on the shrimp is peppery and the perfect thickness, so you can actually taste the shrimp rather than just the breading.
When you get one, the cherry peppers add a fun kick of spice, but they can be easily avoided if you’re not a spice fan.
Finally, the garlic butter adds some richness to the appetizer – who doesn’t love a garlic-butter-shrimp trio of flavors?
The ranch isn’t really necessary since all the other flavors are spot on, but it still tastes great if you want something to cool you down after the hot cherry peppers.
The Wild West Shrimp contains 970 calories, and the ranch dip has 230 calories.
6. T-Bone Steak
T-Bone steaks are cut from the short loin and are named after the t-shaped bone, which separates the two halves of the steak.
One side of your steak is closer to a NY strip, while the other is more like a filet.
This means you’re getting one section of meat that’s super tender but doesn’t have any marbling and another section that’s not quite as tender but has some marbling – talk about the best of both worlds!
This is a great option for someone who doesn’t know exactly what they’re looking for in a steak.
Plus, it is a whopping 18 oz, so you’ll get a fair bang for your buck here.
The Fire-Grilled T-Bone contains 1130 calories and comes with your choice of two sides.
5. The LongHorn Porterhouse
If you thought that LongHorn’s T-Bone steak was big, it’s time to meet the LongHorn Porterhouse.
Weighing in at 22 oz, this steak is perfect for sharing.
Like the T-bone steak, a porterhouse is cut from the short loin of the cow, with a strip steak on one side and a tenderloin on the other.
The bone-in strip is marbled and juicy, while the tenderloin has the buttery texture of a filet mignon.
Again, just like the T-bone, it’s a great option for trying out two different types of steak.
The LongHorn Porterhouse contains 1280 calories and comes with your choice of two sides.
4. Ribeye
A ribeye cut comes from between the ribs, so it’s a boneless cut that’s tender and super juicy.
At 12 oz, the Ribeye isn’t one of LongHorn’s biggest steaks, but diners love it for its marbling and flavor.
Thanks to all that rendered fat from the marbling, the Ribeye is known for having the ultimate meaty flavor that we associate steak with.
LongHorn’s Ribeye is smoky, and the seasoning on top is slightly peppery.
I’d say this is like the quintessential steakhouse steak, and pretty much anyone who orders this will be satisfied with it.
The Ribeye contains 810 calories and is served with your choice of two sides.
3. Flo’s Filet
Filet Mignon is a slice of beef cut from the tenderloin and known for being exceedingly tender. In fact, a really good filet mignon can sometimes be cut with a fork alone.
LongHorn Steakhouse’s filet has less fat than all the other steak options but still manages to pack in plenty of flavor and tenderness.
Each filet comes topped with a blend of spices, including paprika, coriander, cayenne, and garlic powder.
This “Prairie Dust,” as LongHorn calls it, gives the filet an extra kick of smokiness and a hint of spice.
The steak really melts in your mouth and is served with your choice of two sides.
A 6 oz Flo’s Filet contains 330 calories, and a 9 oz contains 450 calories.
2. Flo’s Filet & Lobster Tail
Every steakhouse needs to have a surf and turf option. Sorry, I don’t make the rules!
LongHorn’s version of the classic combo brings together the Flo Filet and a fresh cold-water lobster tail and ties the two together with a melted butter sauce.
LongHorn’s filet is the most tender meat cut on the menu, which pairs beautifully with that succulent lobster tail.
So if you’re looking for a little luxury on a night dining at LongHorn, this combo is it!
Flo’s Filet & Lobster Tail contains 420 calories, and the butter sauce has 210 calories.
1. Outlaw Ribeye
The Outlaw Ribeye is not only the best steak on the LongHorn menu but also the best menu item, period.
The ribeye steak is typically cut from ribs 6 through 12 and has plenty of marbling throughout, resulting in an ultra-flavorful and juicy cut of meat.
All 20 oz of the bone-in Outlaw Ribeye is fire-grilled and jam-packed with flavor.
The bone attached to your steak adds even more flavor to your cut of meat.
LongHorn recommends ordering yours medium or below to enjoy the steak’s full flavor and juiciness.
The Outlaw Ribeye contains 1,250 calories and is served with your choice of two sides.
Conclusion
With over 500 locations in the US, there’s a good chance that a LongHorn Steakhouse is closer to you than you think.
While the chain is most famous for its steaks, its other menu items are not to be overlooked – especially the Strawberry Shortcake and the Wild West Shrimp.
The Outlaw Ribeye will always be my number one pick on the LongHorn Steakhouse menu, but honorable mentions go out to Flo’s Filet & Lobster Tail Combo and the Corn on the Cob!
