Dollar General Pickup: How It Works and How to Order on the DG App
If you’re a busy person who struggles to find time to run errands, Dollar General’s pickup service is a time saver. DG Pickup is a great tool to make shopping for groceries and household items as quick and easy as possible!
Dollar General offers free pickup that can be ordered on the DG website or app. However, this is not curbside pickup, so you need to go inside your local Dollar General store to pick up your order. You can use digital coupons for Dollar General pickup orders, but EBT is not accepted.

How Does Dollar General Pickup Work?
To place a Dollar General pickup order, you can visit the DG website or download the DG app. You’ll receive an email notifying you when your order is ready. Then, you can head down to your local Dollar General and pick up your order from the designated shelf.
You can place a Dollar General Pickup order on the Dollar General website or by downloading the Dollar General app on your smartphone or tablet.
Before placing your order, you’ll need to create a Dollar General account on the website or app.
Then, you can select your local Dollar General store. Make sure you look carefully at the address; you don’t want to accidentally send your order to a completely different Dollar General!
After that, you can browse different categories and add items to your cart.
While you browse for items, the website or app will tell you whether a given item is available for pickup at your local store.
The website or app will also tell you if an item is on sale. That way, you can apply coupons and get a discount on your order!
Once you’ve added all of your items to your cart, it’s time to check out. You can pick a specific time and date to pick up your Dollar General order and pay using your credit or debit card.
If a specific item that you ordered is not available at your local Dollar General anymore, you have the option of authorizing Dollar General to provide a substitute item.
If this happens, you will be charged the price of the substitute, not the price of the original item that you added to your cart.
If you don’t authorize a substitute, or there are no substitutes available, you will not receive that item in your order, but you also won’t be charged for it.
Dollar General will always email or send you an in-app alert notifying you if any items are out of stock or substituted.
After your pickup order is submitted, an in-store shopper will gather all of your items, bag them, and place them on the designated pickup shelf.
When the order is ready to go, you’ll receive an email from Dollar General!
If you ordered through the Dollar General app, you’d receive a notification on the app that your order is ready. You can also opt-in to receive text message notifications.
To pick up your order, just head down to your local Dollar General where you placed the order, then head to the designated DG Pickup area. Your order will be ready for you on the shelf.
If you can’t pick up your Dollar General order at the designated time, that’s OK! Your order will be ready on the designated pickup shelf until the end of the day that you selected for pickup.
If you don’t come to pick up the order by the time the store closes, your order will be canceled. Otherwise, there are no penalties for late pickups.
If you need to cancel your pickup order for any reason, you can do so in the Dollar General app.
Go to the Order History section and select the order you want to cancel. Tap “Details,” then scroll to the bottom and press “Cancel Order.”
You can cancel your DG pickup order anytime up to 30 minutes after you originally placed the order.
Unfortunately, you cannot change the designated pickup time or store location once you’ve placed your order.
The best thing to do is to cancel your order, then place a new order at the correct time and location that you want.

How Much Does Dollar General Pickup Cost?
Dollar General pickup is free. Dollar General does not charge any fees for using the DG Pickup service.
The only time that you may be charged extra when using Dollar General Pickup is if you authorize a substitution for an item that has gone out of stock.
If you order an item on Dollar General pickup, but it sells out before your in-store shopper has a chance to assemble your order, you have the option of authorizing a substitute item.
If this substitute item is more expensive than the original item you ordered, the price of your order will go up.

When you browse for items, the website or app will tell you if an item is on sale or is part of a coupon deal.

Does Dollar General Have Curbside Pickup?
Dollar General does not offer curbside pickup services. This means that when you place your Dollar General Pickup order, you will have to physically enter the store and get your order from the designated pickup shelf.
Although Dollar General Pickup and curbside pickup sound similar, there is a key difference between them.
Dollar General Pickup requires you to physically enter your local store and pick up your order from a designated shelf inside the store.
Curbside pickup services send an employee to deliver your order to your car, so you don’t have to enter the store; however, Dollar General does not have that.
If you cannot or don’t want to physically enter the store to pick up your Dollar General order, you can send your pickup information (time, date, and shelf location) to another person, and they can pick up your order for you!
How to Order Dollar General Pickup
Dollar General Pickup orders can be placed on the Dollar General website or from the Dollar General app. Once you create an account, you can browse items, add them to your cart, and select a time, date, and location for pickup.
Here are the steps to place a Dollar General Pickup order using the Dollar General app.
Step 1. First, create an account on the Dollar General app, or log in if you already have one.
Step 2. If you allow the Dollar General app to use location services, the app will automatically find the closest Dollar General store to you. If you don’t want to use location services, you can select your local Dollar General by entering your zip code.
Step 3. Select ‘DGPickup’ on the app to start your order. Then, you’ll be able to select the correct location, time, and date to pick up your order.
Step 4. Then, select ‘Add your first item’ to start adding items to your cart. You can browse items by category or search for specific items using the search bar at the top of the screen.
Step 5. Add all your items to your cart. When you select a specific item, you’ll be able to see the price, whether the item is in stock at your local Dollar General, and whether there are any coupons available for that item. You can select how many of a given item you want to add to your cart and add coupons.
Step 6. Go to your cart by selecting the little cart icon. Here, you can choose to authorize substitutions in case an item sells out before your order is ready. Not every item has substitutions, though. You can also add eligible coupons to your order. If you want to remove an item from your cart, just swipe left and select the little red trash can icon.
Step 7. When you’re ready to check out, select ‘Proceed to checkout.’ There, you will enter your credit or debit card information to pay for the order.
Placing a pickup order on the Dollar General website is similar to placing an order on the DG app.
You can also shop from different categories, add items to your cart, authorize substitutions, select a time, date, and location, and apply coupons.
Can You Use Coupons With Dollar General Pickup?
You can apply digital coupons to your Dollar General Pickup order. You can find all eligible digital coupons by going to the ‘Coupons & Deals’ tab on the Dollar General website or selecting the ‘Deals’ tab on the DG app.
You can also see if an individual item has any available coupons while shopping.
At checkout, you can see if any of the items in your cart have available coupons. However, you must manually select which digital coupons you want to apply, as they will not apply automatically.
The Dollar General site or app will tell you if a given item has any available digital coupons.
To apply a coupon, tap the ‘+’ sign. You’ll also be able to see the terms of the coupon, as well as its expiration date.
Also, each digital coupon will say near the bottom whether it is a DG Store Coupon or a manufacturer’s coupon.
Can You Use EBT for Dollar General Pickup?
Unfortunately, you cannot use EBT for Dollar General pickup. In addition, you cannot use WIC, cash, or gift cards to pay for a Dollar General pickup order.
You can only use a credit or debit card to pay for a Dollar General pickup order.
Dollar General accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover credit cards, and any PIN-based debit card.
How to Change or Cancel a Dollar General Pickup Order
Once you place a Dollar General pickup order, you have up to 30 minutes to cancel it. In addition, after you’ve placed your Dollar General pickup order, you cannot change the items in the order, the location of the order, or the time and date of your pickup.
If you realize that you need to change your order, your best bet is to cancel your order and place a new one.
You will be refunded within three to seven business days when you cancel your DG pickup order.
However, you will have to act quickly because you only have 30 minutes after placing your order to cancel. After 30 minutes, you cannot cancel your DG pickup order.
If you want to change your order, you must cancel your existing order and place a new one.
If you cannot pick up your order at the designated time but are free later that day, you don’t have to cancel your order and place a new one.
Dollar General will hold your order on the designated pickup shelf until closing that day.
If no one comes to pick up your order by the end of the day, your order will be canceled, and you will be refunded within three to seven business days.
If Dollar General is unable to fulfill your order, you will receive an email saying that your order has been canceled, and you will not be charged
