Do You Tip Amazon Fresh Delivery? (Yes, Here’s How Much)

When ordering from grocery services, including Amazon Fresh, it’s highly recommended to include a tip. However, figuring out exactly how much to tip Amazon Fresh drivers can be challenging, especially if it’s your first time ordering from this service.

The tip you leave for an Amazon Fresh delivery driver should always be at least $5 since it is the default tip amount. Amazon Fresh drivers receive the full tip amount, and tips make up a big part of their income. Although drivers rely heavily on tips, they do not see how much each customer tips them.

Whether you’re new to Amazon Fresh or not, it’s important to know where your tips are going and how to change the dollar amount when the need arises.

This article will walk you through every aspect of leaving a tip on Amazon Fresh to ensure you’re tipping fairly and directly to your driver.

How Much Should You Tip Amazon Fresh Delivery?

When it comes to Amazon Fresh tips, the recommended amount is $5. This is the reason why the tip of $5 is automatically applied at checkout. However, this can be changed and even taken off entirely. When adjusting the tip from the preset amount, consider 15% a baseline and 20% the average.

When using Amazon Fresh services, keep in mind that those who are delivering your items are comparable to wait staff within a restaurant. They too work in customer service and rely on tips from customers.

Most restaurant-goers would leave tips for a waiter or waitress, so you should maintain that same rule when using Amazon Fresh!

That is why a 15-20% tip is recommended for delivery drivers as it is the percentage that’s in line with what would be left when eating out.

Also, in contemplating the amount you’re going to tip your delivery driver, remember that drivers receive a low hourly wage and rely heavily on receiving tips from customers.

Because of this, it is highly encouraged to leave a tip for your driver to support a fair wage for each Amazon Fresh employee.

Do Amazon Fresh Drivers See Tips?

Amazon Fresh drivers cannot see the tip amount left by each customer. Instead, drivers can see the tip subtotal at the end of each day, but it is not broken down by the customer. This maintains privacy for customers while ensuring drivers can access their tips each day.

As an Amazon Fresh customer, it’s natural to feel self-conscious about drivers seeing your tip before the delivery reaches you.

By not allowing drivers to see the tip amount from each customer, Amazon maintains customer privacy.

Showing the tip subtotal at the end of each day allows drivers to see how much they earned in tips without seeing the increments given by each customer or which customer tipped versus which did not.

Who Gets the Tip for Amazon Fresh?

Amazon Fresh drivers get 100% of the tips customers leave for them. This makes up a big part of the income drivers earn from Amazon Fresh. Since each driver gets the entirety of the tips left by customers, it is important to tip your drivers whenever possible.

Amazon can get away with a low baseline for their drivers’ hourly pay by ensuring their employees get the tips they earn from customers.

This is a great way to boost drivers’ income without providing them with higher salaries. Therefore, tips can either significantly increase a driver’s income or leave them with relatively low earnings.

How Do You Tip Amazon Fresh Drivers?

When shopping on Amazon Fresh, be sure to pay attention to your tip amount at checkout. If you’re not sure how to check this, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your Amazon account and start shopping for Amazon Fresh items.
  2. When you’re ready, head to the cart in the top right of your screen and click it to checkout.
  3. As you continue the checkout process, you’ll see the price layout after entering your shipping address and payment information.
  4. Look to the bottom of your price layout, and you’ll see where it says “Tip”
  5. The amount will say $5 automatically, and if you do not choose to change your tip amount, this is the dollar amount that will go through.

Keep in mind that you can change the dollar amount of your tip on the checkout screen. If you’d like, you can lower the tip, delete the tip altogether, or give a larger tip.

How Do You Change Your Tip on Amazon Fresh?

Once you’re on the checkout screen for your order, you’ll have the option to change your tip. If you’re choosing to take this route, here is how you can change your tip:

  1. Follow steps 1-5 above
  2. Once you find where it says “Tip”, click on the button next to Tip that should say “Edit”
  3. Once you get rerouted, you’ll be able to enter in the exact tip amount you’d like to give your driver.

Keep in mind that once your order goes through, you’ll have up to 24 hours to change the dollar amount you left on the tip.

Therefore, if you forget to change it from the default $5 amount, you can go back into your order and make changes later.

Amazon Fresh No Tip Option

If you’re shopping on Amazon Fresh and cannot see a tip line during checkout, it is likely because you’re using a gift card to pay for your order. When using a gift card, there is no option to leave a tip for the driver. You can troubleshoot this by paying a part of the order with a credit card.

Since gift cards can only be redeemed on Amazon products, the money cannot go towards a driver’s earnings. However, you can choose to apply gift cards to only a part of the order.

This can easily be done by selecting your gift card at checkout and only applying it to only part of the order total rather than all of it.

Once you select the gift card, you can choose which credit card you’d like to charge the rest of your order to.

By linking a credit card, the ability to tip will come back onto your checkout screen, and you can follow the steps outlined above for adding and changing your tip amount.

There is no minimum that you have to charge to the gift card to get the tip feature back using this process.

Final Thoughts

When using services like Amazon Fresh, it is important to leave tips for delivery drivers. Amazon Fresh automatically enters in a $5 tip at checkout, which is a good baseline; however, for larger orders, you may need to adjust your tip accordingly to be more in line with 15% to 20%.

Keep in mind that you will not find the location to leave a tip if you are using a gift card to pay for your Amazon Fresh purchases. In this case, you can use a credit card for part of your order to tip your driver.

Each Amazon Fresh driver is reliant on tips to make a fair wage for delivering groceries. Because of that, each customer should be leaving at least a $5 tip when ordering grocery delivery through Amazon.
