In 2011, when Instagram was in its infancy, and everyone was flocking to theaters to watch the final Harry Potter movie, another equally noteworthy event took place: Chick-fil-A introduced its Banana Pudding Milkshake.

Now, thirteen years later, Chick-fil-A has brought back this banana-flavored treat. Just a day after its official relaunch, there’s already plenty of buzz surrounding the new milkshake flavor. Naturally, I had to give it a try. So, is this the comeback we’ve all been waiting for, or should this flavor have stayed in the past? Let’s find out!

Chick-fil-A’s new Banana Pudding Milkshake is made with the restaurant’s classic vanilla Icedream, which is their version of soft serve. That’s mixed with banana and vanilla wafer cookie crumbles and topped off with whipped cream and a cherry.

My first thought when I took a sip: WOW, that’s banana-y. Now, that might sound obvious, but this wasn’t regular banana flavoring you’d expect to find in the banana pudding – this was an artificial, aggressive banana flavor that you’d find in candy like Laffy Taffy.

Even though Chick-fil-A’s website claims to have actual bananas in this milkshake, I couldn’t taste them. They probably were there but just got overpowered by the artificial banana flavoring.

Now, onto the next issue. In all the banana puddings I’ve tried before, the vanilla wafer cookies are softer and spongy by the time you eat them. In this milkshake, presumably because it has a cold base, the wafer cookie crumbles are super hard and have a rockier texture, which I was slightly disappointed by.

All this being said, I drank the whole milkshake and enjoyed the entire thing, so it was still a nice treat.

Grab or Pass?

Between the super hard cookie crumbles and the artificial banana flavoring, I would pass on Chick-fil-A’s Banana Pudding milkshake. It isn’t bad, but I’d choose their Cookies and Cream milkshake or a cup of real banana pudding over it any day. If you want to try this milkshake, you have until November 16, 2024, to check it out.
