Taco Bell’s Secret Aardvark Nacho Fries: Taste Test & Review
Taco Bell’s Nacho Fries are like the double rainbow of fast food items – they’re colorful and universally adored, and just as soon as you see them, they disappear with no telling when they’ll be back on the menu.
On April 25th, Taco Bell brought back the Nacho Fries, and this time, it has a spicy twist. The regular version features a blend of spices and nacho cheese for dipping, but this new version, dubbed the “Secret Aardvark” Nacho Fries, has a whole lot more going on.
I stopped by Taco Bell on the day of the debut to give their new Nacho Fries a try. Read on to find out if it’s worth the $5.59 price tag.
Taste Test
Taco Bell collaborated with the hot sauce brand Secret Aardvark to make their newest take on Nacho Fries. The Secret Aardvark Nacho Fries feature the chain’s signature fries topped with Secret Aardvark’s Serrabanero Ranch sauce. There are chunks of chicken, shredded cheese, and pico de gallo to top things off.
I thought the Secret Aardvark sauce was pretty spicy – a little spicier than I usually go for, but still enjoyable. The creaminess of the sauce made it feel like a hybrid between nacho cheese and hot sauce.
The pico de gallo added some freshness to the fries, and there was a fair amount of chicken on top. I was also impressed by how crispy the fries were after they sat in the car as I drove them home.
Grab or Pass?
Taco Bell’s new Nacho Fries are a grab, for sure. If you like spicy food or loaded fries, this will be right up your alley. Even if you can’t handle a ton of heat, you’ll probably be fine with these – just make sure to keep a Baja Blast on hand in case it gets too spicy!
For a little under $6, you’re getting close to a full meal, so even though it’s a bit more expensive than other items on Taco Bell’s Value Menu, this is still a great deal.
