How to Use Apple Pay at Target

With almost 2,000 stores across 50 states, Target is one of the most popular retailers among consumers. From groceries to household essentials to electronics, Target stores have it all.

You might be wondering if the convenience of shopping at Target also includes their accepted payment methods, especially for mobile payment options like Apple Pay.

Target accepts Apple Pay in stores and the Target app. To use Apple Pay in Target stores, tell the cashier at checkout and bring your iPhone or Apple Watch close to the NFC reader. You can also use Apple Pay in the Target app for pickup or delivery orders by clicking the Apple Pay button at the checkout screen.

In this article, I’ll cover how to use Apple Pay at Target stores, in the Target app, and whether you can add RedCard and Target Gift Cards to your Apple Wallet.

How to Use Apple Pay at Target

To use Apple Pay at Target, tell the cashier that you will use Apple Pay once you’re in the checkout lane and bring your iPhone or Apple Watch next to the NFC card reader. If your payment goes through successfully, you’ll see a confirmation message displayed on the screen.

Apple Pay is a contactless payment method, and it only takes a few seconds to complete your payment at Target.

Keep in mind that since Apple Pay is a secure payment method, the last four digits printed on your receipt will not match your card number. This is because Apple Pay changes this number to protect the card information.

You can follow the steps below to use Apple Pay at Target with Face ID, Touch ID, or Apple Watch.

Using Apple Pay at Target With iPhone Face ID

  1. Double-click the side button on your iPhone to pay for your items with your selected card
  2. Confirm your identity using Face ID or by entering your passcode
  3. Bring your phone close to the NFC card reader until a checkmark appears, and you’ll see “Done” on the display

Using Apple Pay at Target With iPhone Touch ID

  1. Place your finger on your phone’s Touch ID to pay with your default card
  2. Bring your phone close to the NFC reader until you see “Done,” and a checkmark will appear on display.

Using Apple Pay at Target With Your Apple Watch

  1. Double-click the side button of your Apple Watch to pay with your default card.
  2. Next, bring your Apple Watch near the NFC reader face down.
  3. Your Apple Watch will buzz to let you know your transaction was successful.

Can You Add Target Card to Apple Wallet?

Unfortunately, you cannot add your Target RedCard to your Apple Wallet. Target RedCards cannot be added or used with any digital wallets, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay. However, you can add your RedCard to Target Wallet, which is a wallet in the Target app.

While you cannot use RedCard with Apple Pay, Target Wallet is a great alternative. It is a feature in the Target app that makes the checkout faster and easier. We’ll cover Target Wallet in more detail later in this article.

Can You Add Target Gift Card to Apple Wallet?

If you have a physical Target Visa, Target Mastercard, or Target American Express gift card, you cannot add it to your Apple Wallet and use it with Apple Pay. However, you can add digital Target Visa and Target Mastercard gift cards to Apple Wallet and use them with Apple Pay.

Keep in mind that Target Visa, Mastercard, and AMEX gift cards are different than reloadable Target Gift Cards. These cards are issued by a third-party bank.

If you have a reloadable Target Gift Card, you can use it in-store or online and pay the remaining balance using Apple Pay.

You can also add reloadable Target Gifts Cards to your Wallet in the Target app and use them for purchases.

What Is Target Wallet?

Target Wallet is a feature in the Target app that can be used in Target stores to make purchases. With Target Wallet, you can use your Target RedCard, Target Gift Card, and Target Debit Card to make payments and apply Circle offers, Weekly Ad coupons, and Target Circle earnings to your order.

According to Target, customers using the Wallet in the Target app for in-store purchases check out up to four times faster than other payment methods.

Another big advantage of Target Wallet is the ability to use your RedCard and get a 5% discount. You can also combine the 5% RedCard discount with Circle offers, Weekly Ad coupons, and Target Circle earnings.

Faster and easier in-store checkouts and the ability to use Circle offers and Weekly Ad coupons in one place make Target Wallet a convenient option for many customers.

Benefits of Apple Pay

The main benefit of Apple Pay is the built-in security feature that hides the card information while using it for online or in-store purchases. Apple Pay also allows customers to have faster checkouts with one-click payments and the ability to set up recurring payments to merchants.

If you are using Apple products like iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, Apple Pay is the easiest way to make payments without the need for your Wallet.

Apple’s TouchID and FaceID technologies work flawlessly to verify your identity and process payments through Apple Pay.

One other benefit of Apple Pay is the ability to track your transaction history without a receipt. All payment history can be accessed easily through the Apple Wallet.

One exception to merchant gift cards is Starbucks gift cards. You can use Starbucks gift cards at the Starbucks locations in Target stores.

Does Target Take Afterpay?

Target customers in Australia can use Afterpay to make purchases; however, Target does not take Afterpay in the U.S. Instead, Target customers in the US can use Affirm to make online purchases for in-store or curbside pickup. Affirm is a financing option, and loan decisions are made online during checkout.

Target customers who choose Affirm financing option can pay their balance over a 3,6, or 12 months period. Affirm financing is only available for eligible options purchased at Target, and approved loans can be $100- $15,000, including tax.

Just like any other financing option, you’ll pay interest rates on the loan payments. Affirm interest rates vary between 10-30% APR based on your credit score.

Keep in mind that some items at Target are not eligible for Affirm. Ineligible items for Affirm include alcohol, pet food, vitamin & supplements, cold & allergy medications, personal hygiene products, skin treatments, specialty gift cards, XBOX All Access, and contract cell phones

Conclusion

Being able to use Apple Pay in Target stores and the Target app is a great convenience for many customers.
