Trader Joe’s Hours, Flyer, Best Time to Shop, and Payment Methods

Trader Joe’s is loved by many for its fresh and exciting products sold at reasonable prices. The retailer certainly has a large fanbase, and for good reason. It offers a unique assortment of items that you often cannot find anywhere else.

Trader Joe’s stores are open every day from 8 am– 9 pm, which gives you plenty of time to shop. However, they have reduced hours from 8 am– 5 pm during most holidays.

They are also closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day, so plan your shopping around the holidays accordingly.

I find the best time to shop at Trader Joe’s is between 8 am– 10 am on Tuesday or Wednesday.

This allows you to beat the crowds and pick the freshest products without the risk of them selling out throughout the day.

As a Trader Joe’s fan, I put together a list of things you should know before heading to a store.

So read on to find out how you can maximize your shopping experience the next time you visit Trader Joe’s!

Trader Joe’s Hours

All Trader Joe’s stores are open between 8 am- 9 pm seven days a week. The stores are either closed or have reduced hours during most holidays.

If you want to find out whether a nearby Trader Joe’s is open, you can confirm their hours of operation by calling your local store or checking Store Search on their website.

The Store Search will show you an address for each location and its hours on the day you are searching, but you can also click on the ‘View All Hours’ button to see when the store will be open for the entire week.

You can find more details about Trader Joe’s holiday store hours in the next section!

Specifically, they close early at 5 pm on Easter, Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve.

On Good Friday, Labor Day, and Black Friday, Trader Joe’s maintains its regular store hours, 8 am– 9 pm. Therefore, they stay open during normal business hours on these holidays.

Trader Joe’s Senior Hours

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Trader Joe’s offered special hours for seniors to shop. This provided a safer environment where at-risk individuals could continue shopping for necessary groceries.

However, most Trader Joe’s stores no longer offer senior hours, so try to shop when stores are the least crowded.

Although Trader Joe’s no longer offers senior hours, seniors can still find out when to shop based on when the store is the least crowded.

Google displays how popular a store is at each hour based on past trends.

Usually, the least popular shopping hours are 1-2 hours right after the store opens and 1-2 hours before closing.

Trader Joe’s Liquor Store Hours

Trader Joe’s liquor store hours are typically the same as regular store hours (8 am– 9 pm) on weekdays. However, the hours you can purchase alcohol may vary by location, depending on state regulations.

While most states do not have restrictions on weekdays, multiple states restrict liquor purchases on Sundays until after 12 pm.

Most states that allow the sale of alcoholic beverages at grocery stores do not have very restrictive limits for weekdays.

The most common restriction that could impact your shopping experience is on Sundays. Specifically, multiple states restrict liquor purchases on Sundays until after 12 pm.

The following states restrict all alcohol sales at Trader Joe’s locations:

  • Delaware
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island

In other states, there are restrictions at some stores but not others.

You should also note that each store can vary in its restrictions with regard to beer, wine, and distilled liquors.

For example, some states allow the sale of all three, while others only sell beer or wine.

The easiest way to find out whether your local Trader Joe’s sells alcoholic beverages and its liquor store hours is to go to their website.

To do this, first, go to the “Store Search” on their website. When you search for your local store, the results indicate which alcoholic beverages can be sold for each location’s listing.

You can also click ‘View Store Details’ to see information for a particular site.

Trader Joe’s Restocking Schedule

Trader Joe’s restocks according to a universal restocking schedule. All Trader Joe’s stores receive daily shipments, and employees restock shelves throughout the day during regular business hours.

Some stores receive only 1-2 shipments in a day, while others in more populated areas can receive up to 4 or 5 shipments each day.

The best time to shop at Trader Joe’s is Tuesday or Wednesday morning, from 8 am to 10 am.

When you shop early, you can expect the freshest produce and perishable items to be available.

In addition, the products won’t be picked over or sold out, which may happen if you shop in the afternoon.

Trader Joe’s Doesn’t Have Coupons

Trader Joe’s does not offer coupons because the company believes in low prices every day, and they don’t have any sales either.

However, you can save money by subscribing to their newsletter, Fearless Flyer, which features the latest seasonal products and low prices.

The Fearless Flyer is an informative newsletter that Trader Joe’s offers to all its customers. It shows you the latest seasonal products and their affordable prices.

It also has delicious recipes scattered throughout. You can sign up to receive the free newsletter or go to their website if you want to check out the latest issue.

Although Trader Joe’s does not offer any coupons or sales, you can still save by signing up for a rebate service like Ibotta.

Customers who use Ibotta can send in pictures of their receipts and receive rebates for eligible products. Eventually, you can withdraw your earnings as cash or a gift card.

If you aren’t already using Ibotta, you can sign up here to start saving at many of your favorite stores.

Trader Joe’s Takes EBT

Trader Joe’s accepts EBT as a payment method in stores. When checking out at your local store, use your EBT card like a debit card to pay for eligible items.

You will need a second payment method (credit or debit card) for any additional items not covered by SNAP. However, note that Trader Joe’s does not accept WIC benefits.

Your EBT card can be used to pay for any items deemed eligible by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Eligible items include fruits and vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, bread and cereals, snack foods, non-alcoholic beverages, and seeds/plants that will eventually produce food.

If you would like to learn more about SNAP/EBT-eligible items, visit USDA’s website.

Accepted Payment Methods at Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s accepts credit cards, debit cards, cash, personal checks, EBT cards, Trader Joe’s gift cards, and Apple Pay.

You can use any of these payment methods when shopping in-store. However, Trader Joe’s gift cards are only accepted in their physical form.

Count yourself lucky if you have been given a TJ’s gift card – you can buy so many delicious and affordable products available!

But remember, you must have the gift card in the physical form.

Printed or digital versions of a Trader Joe’s gift card are not legitimate (Trader Joe’s does not sell these), and they will not be accepted at checkout.

Aldi Doesn’t Own Trader Joe’s

Aldi and Trader Joe’s are separate business entities that operate independently.

The families who own part of Aldi Nord also own Trader Joe’s; however, there is no direct relationship between the two companies.

Aldi US is part of Aldi Sud, which isn’t related to Trader Joe’s as the owners aren’t related.

Aldi’s history dates back to the 1910s. The Albrecht family ran Aldi in Europe for many years until 1960, when the brothers split the coverage area in half.

Thus, Aldi became Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud, which are two separate companies.

The owners of Aldi Nord eventually purchased Trader Joe’s, but Aldi and Trader Joe’s serve as two unique and affordable grocery stores.

Conclusion

Trader Joe’s is a great store that provides high-quality products and a welcoming environment.

You can shop for your favorite groceries on almost any day of the year, and Trader Joe’s hours are extensive enough to accommodate any shopping schedule.

Don’t forget to check out their Fearless Flyer for newly released seasonal products!

I found some of my favorite products at Trader Joe’s through their newsletter. Of course, you can always have fun exploring the shelves at your local store!
