Review: Domino’s New York Style Pizza

When it comes to big pizza chains, it’s not every day that a new type of pizza is added to the menu. Domino’s just came out with a new crust type to join their lineup, which is called “New York Style Pizza.” According to the chain, this crust is thin and makes for “big, foldable slices,” just like what New York’s pizza is known for. But can a chain pizza crust possibly measure up to New York’s iconic crust? I decided to try it myself and find out.

Taste Test

I ordered a plain cheese pizza to keep my focus solely on the main event: the New York Crust. My taste test got off to a rocky start because, despite living less than two miles from a Domino’s, it took about 90 minutes to get my pizza delivered. When it finally arrived, it was room temperature, so I had to say goodbye to melty cheese. But that just meant I could focus even more on the New York crust, right?

Well, that was a little disappointing, too. The crust wasn’t bad by any means, but it didn’t have the chewy, bready flavor and texture I was hoping for. If this crust was put up against Domino’s hand-tossed crust or even crunchy thin crust, I don’t know if I’d be able to tell the difference.

Grab or Pass?

Even though I didn’t see a big difference between this crust and other types of crusts Domino’s offers, I’d still say this pizza is worth a grab. The flavor is nice, but I wish it was a little more foldable and a bit chewier since it’s claiming to be “New York-Style.” Since the pizza wasn’t fresh when I received it, I’ll give the crust the benefit of the doubt. In fact, I’m planning on giving it another try very soon (but picking it up myself this time!)
